Courses

Candidates for GMDSS GOC and ROC examinations are required to take a course of instruction prior to examination. Candidates for the LRC are advised to contact a course provider for advice about examination preparation.

You should contact providers of approved courses for information about costs, travel, accommodation, availability of places on their courses, etc. The course provider will also make arrangements for the examination.

Examinations

AMERC Administration Handbook

The AMERC Administration Handbook contains information about examination procedures, equipment lists, adminstration arrangements and copies of examination syllabii.

If you are an AMERC member or GMDSS examiner, log in to the AMERC website to view or download a copy. Non-members should email the National Administration Centre who will provide a copy on payment of a nominal fee (£20 plus postage).

GMDSS Simulators

The International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) requires the approval of simulators used for mandatory training or assessment of seafarers. Only AMERC Approved Simulators may be used on UK Approved GMDSS Courses and UK Approved GMDSS Examinations.

Simulator developers and manufacturers may apply to AMERC to have their simulator approved. Details regarding required performance standards and the conformity assessment process are available by application from AMERC on payment of a nominal fee (£20 plus postage).
